Art Program

Art has a transformative impact on the individuals who attend Easterseals West Kentucky. Through creative activities, participants find new ways to share their voices, strengthen fine motor and problem-solving skills, and experience therapeutic benefits of artistic expression. Art fosters confidence and a sense of pride, while group projects and community displays encourage inclusion and help highlight the unique talents of every individual. 

What happens in the art room? 

• Daily art class: Participants enjoy working on their own projects and being creative in their own ways
• Workshops: Smaller groups learn more in-depth processes such as card-making, drawing facial features, and pottery
• Donations/Giveaways: Special projects for community organizations are made by participants with care and love

Current Projects

American Flag

This summer marked the first year of an annual American flag project. Participants created a 120"x55" collage of the American flag, which was gifted to the City of Paducah. The flag, pictured here, currently hangs in City Hall in Paducah, KY. 

Heart & Soul

The Heart & Soul Auction is an annual fundraiser at Easterseals West Kentucky, which was reinstated in 2026 for the first time since 2019, to support the Art Program. Working alongside local artists, participants are able to create collaborative artwork to be featured and sold at the auction. Pieces are often hung in local businesses and organizations. Funds are used to improve the program, provide frequently-used supplies, and support art-focused field trips and outings.

Volunteer Artists Wanted: Use Your Creativity to Make a Difference! 

We are inviting artists — or those who just love art — to share their talent and creativity in a meaningful way! We are seeking volunteer artists to collaborate one-on-one with our participants—individuals with disabilities who find confidence, expression, and joy through art. Pieces created through this collaboration will be displayed and sold at this year's Heart & Soul Art Auction, taking place on March 7, 2026.

Your time and talent can make a lasting impact. 

Why volunteer? 

• Flexible time commitment—just a few hours can make a difference
• Meaningful connections—work side by side with participants and watch their creativity shine
• Showcase your work—all pieces will be displayed and sold at our Heart & Soul Art Auciton on March 7 to raise funds for the Art Department
• Creative freedom—create art in any shape, size, medium, or dimension

Volunteering: 

As a volunteer artist, you will: 

• Work one-on-one with an Easterseals participant to co-create artwork
• Participate in a series of collaborative sessions (coordinated based on availability)
• Assist in the creation of a final piece of fundraiser consideration
• Help foster creativity, confidence, and connection through art
• Communicate with program coordinators as needed
• Optionally attend the event - tickets available for purchase online (see above)

Artists are welcome to work on-site at Easterseals or host a participant in their own studio—volunteers will never be left alone. This is completely optional and should align with your comfort, availability, and capacity.

Artwork & Auction

Easterseals West Kentucky will use their discretion for artwork that is included in the auction. Some artwork may be used in the live auction, silent auction, or separately from the event. Selection will be based on need, space, and overall curation. All artwork will be used for Easterseals West Kentucky fundraising or art program awareness purposes.

Besides the joy of working with an Easterseals participant, volunteer artists will receive: 

• Facebook spotlight feature, highlighting your work and story
• Program name listing in official event materials
• Website listing with your artist bio and appropriate links on the Heart & Soul site
• Mention at the event during the acknowledgements
• Invitation to in-house hype event for networking and celebration
